Today is my birthday but no one has sent me any birthday wishes yet

Mike was a small, scruffy dog with a heart as big as the world. He lived in a bustling city, his home a small kennel in a crowded animal shelter. Today was his birthday, a day that most dogs celebrated with joy and affection. But for Mike, it was just another day of loneliness.

He sat in his kennel, his head resting on his paws. He watched the other dogs playing and interacting with their owners, his heart filled with sadness. He longed for a loving home, a place where he would be wanted and cherished.

As the day wore on, Mike’s loneliness grew. He whimpered softly, his mournful cries echoing through the shelter. He thought about the birthday parties he had seen on television, dogs surrounded by loved ones, their tails wagging with joy. He yearned for that kind of life, a life filled with love and companionship.

Just as Mike was about to give up hope, he heard a familiar voice. It was the kind woman who volunteered at the shelter every week. She had always been gentle with Mike, offering him words of encouragement and affection.

“Happy birthday, Mike,” she said, kneeling beside his kennel. “You’re a very special boy.” She reached out and stroked his head, her touch soft and comforting.

Mike leaned into the woman’s hand, his tail wagging feebly. For a moment, he felt a glimmer of hope. Perhaps, just perhaps, someone would see beyond his scruffy appearance and offer him a chance at a better life.

As the sun began its descent, casting long shadows across the shelter, Mike closed his eyes. He may have been alone and unwanted, but he had the love and support of the kind woman. And that, he knew, was enough.
