I know I’m not perfect but I still really want to receive good wishes on my birthday today

Ni was a small, scruffy dog with a heart as big as the world. Born with a disability in his hind legs, he’d spent his life navigating the world on his front paws, his tail wagging like a beacon of hope. Despite his challenges, Ni was a happy-go-lucky pup, always eager for a belly rub or a game of fetch.

Today was Ni’s birthday. The shelter workers had decorated his kennel with balloons and streamers, and there was a special cake baked just for him. But Ni wasn’t interested in the decorations or the treats. He wanted something else, something that no party or gift could replace. He wanted to feel loved, accepted, and appreciated.

As the day wore on, Ni watched the other dogs play, their barks filled with joy. He longed to join them, to run and jump and play without a care. But his disability held him back. He could only watch, his heart aching with a longing he couldn’t express.

Just as Ni was about to give up hope, he heard a familiar voice. “Hey there, Ni!” It was a young girl, her eyes sparkling with kindness. She knelt down beside him, her hand gently stroking his fur.

“Happy birthday, buddy,” she said. “You’re the bravest dog I know.”

Ni’s tail wagged furiously. He’d heard those words before, but they never failed to warm his heart. The girl reached into her pocket and pulled out a small, squeaky toy. Ni’s eyes lit up. He loved squeaky toys.

The girl tossed the toy, and Ni scrambled after it. He wasn’t as fast as the other dogs, but he didn’t give up. He chased the toy, his heart pounding with excitement. When he finally caught it, he brought it back to the girl, his tail wagging like crazy.

The girl laughed and gave him a big hug. “You’re amazing, Ni,” she said. “Don’t ever let anyone tell you different.”

Ni’s heart swelled with happiness. He didn’t need a party or a present. He just needed to feel loved and accepted. And today, on his birthday, he had felt more loved than ever before.

As the day drew to a close, Ni curled up in his bed, a smile on his face. He might have been born with a disability, but he was also born with a spirit that knew no bounds. And that was the greatest gift of all.
