Pen was a small, scruffy dog with a heart as big as the world. Born with a cloudy left eye, he had faced countless challenges throughout his life. But despite his disability, Pen remained a cheerful and optimistic soul.
Today was his birthday, a day he had been looking forward to for weeks. He had heard stories from the older dogs at the shelter about birthday treats, belly rubs, and lots of love. Pen couldn’t wait to experience it all for himself.
As the sun peeked over the horizon, Pen bounced excitedly around his kennel. He sniffed the air, his nose twitching at the promise of a special day. His human, Alex, came out to greet him, a big smile on his face. “Happy birthday, Pen!” he said, scratching behind the dog’s ears.
Pen wagged his tail furiously, his heart filled with joy. Alex led him outside, where the table was set with a special treat: a big, juicy bone. Pen’s eyes lit up as he sniffed the bone, his mouth watering. He took a tentative bite, and his eyes closed in pure bliss.
After breakfast, Pen and Alex went for a long walk in the park. Pen bounded through the grass, his cloudy eye not slowing him down. He chased squirrels and sniffed every interesting scent he could find. As they walked, they met other dogs and their humans. Everyone wished Pen a happy birthday and gave him a few pats or scratches. Pen loved the attention and wagged his tail with glee.
When they got home, Pen’s friends, a cat named Whiskers and a hamster named Squeak, were waiting for him. They had prepared a special gift for Pen: a small, squeaky toy. Pen played with the toy for hours, his laughter filling the house.
As the sun began to set, Pen curled up on Alex’s lap, his head resting on Alex’s arm. He was tired but content. His birthday had been everything he had hoped for and more. He had received love from everyone, and he felt truly happy and special. As he drifted off to sleep, Pen knew that he would never forget his special day.
