Today is my birthday, I want to go home

Today was supposed to be a special day. A tiny part of Max knew that. He didn’t know how old he was, but the other puppies at the shelter seemed to know. Their tails wagged with extra enthusiasm, their playful barks filling the air. But Max was different. He was lost, alone, and filled with a longing he couldn’t quite understand.

He remembered a warm kitchen, the soft cushion of a lap, and the comforting rumble of a deep voice. There were hands that scratched behind his ears and gentle eyes that looked at him with love. But those memories were fading, replaced by the harsh reality of the shelter.

His birthday wish was simple: to go home. To find the family he missed desperately. He imagined their faces, the way their eyes would light up when they saw him. He could almost smell the familiar scent of their home, a comforting blend of laundry detergent and cooking spices.

The shelter was noisy and overwhelming. Dogs barked, people shouted, and the constant clang of metal doors filled the air. Max retreated into himself, his tail tucked between his legs. He longed for the quiet comfort of his old home, a place where he felt safe and protected.

As the day wore on, Max’s hope began to dwindle. Would he ever see his family again? Would they even remember him? He curled up in his small kennel, his body trembling with loneliness. But even in the depths of despair, a tiny spark of hope remained. Maybe, just maybe, his birthday wish would come true.

For now, he would dream of home, of warm cuddles and endless belly rubs. And he would wait, with a patience that only a lost puppy could muster, for the day when he would be reunited with the family he loved.
